Midwest Meter, Inc. was founded in 1963 to serve the waterworks industry in downstate Illinois as a water-meter testing and rebuilding facility.

The operation served several municipalities throughout central Illinois, servicing all brands and sizes of water meters. It also served in the capacity as a jobber for Badger Meter, Inc. Over the next 17 years, the company continued to expand its services and sales to many communities and water districts throughout central and southern Illinois.

In 1980, the company was purchased by its current owner and president, Don Luttrell. In 1986, the company became a distributor for Badger Meter for the southern two-thirds of Illinois, and in 1988, added the eastern half of Missouri. Since then, the company has grown to become a major supplier of waterworks material and a distributor for many of the leading manufacturers in the industry.  The service area now includes the entire states of Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, northern Indiana, and Western Kentucky.

In 2004, Midwest Meter started offering contractual water-meter services to assist customers with managing their water-meter systems. Through this service, Midwest Meter can manage a water-meter system, based on the customer’s needs, from regular testing to repair service if needed.

The company now has three distribution points with a combined warehouse space of 17,000 square feet in Edinburg, Ill., Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Flora, Ind.
